When was the Age of Exploration?
It was a period from the 15th century (1400s) to the 17th century (1600s).

Why did explorers explore?
-To get to Asia -During the Middle Ages, the Europeans traded along the money-making trade route Silk Road. -Traded for spices, silks and technology -To spread Christianity

Where was the age of exploration?
-Europe -Asia -Africa -America (New World)

Who was involved in the age of Exploration?
-Spain, Portugal, England and France -Columbus: "discovered" two continents that were unknown to the Europeans: North and South America. Vasco da Gama: Found a sea route to India from Portugal. Ferdinand Magellan: Circumnavigated the world but died!

What were explorers looking for?
Originally, Europeans were searching for a sea route to Asia. GOLD , GLORY, GOD They were looking to trade goods, especially valuable spices. - pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves

How did travelers explore the world?
Three types of New technology. 1. The astrolabe - (Arabia) navigators could determine the latitude.

2. The magnetic compass - (China) navigators could determine direction.

3. The Caravel - (Portugal) this new ship fast and could carry more cargo.
