Welcome to the Geography Department homework PowerPoint. Within this presentation you will find a range of tasks and skills to help you reinforce the key learning covered in with Geography lessons and also how you can develop skills in other subjects and out with school. You have the opportunity to decide how you’d like to gather your homework evidence. All we ask if that you complete the tasks to the best of your ability and submit the work to your teacher on the due date. Remember: if there’s anything you’re not sure about please remember to ask your teacher!

4 Homework 1 – Climate Change (ENG 3-17a)
Look at the website ( and answer the following questions in sentences. Approximately what year recoded the lowest carbon emissions (what was the value)? e.g Approximately _________ years ago recorded the lowest carbon emission with a figure of ______ 2. How much has the earth’s surface temperature increased since the late 19th century? 3. How many of the hottest year have occurred since 2001? Which year was the hottest? 4. Name 3 places where glaciers are retreating. Choose one location from 3 different continents 5. How much has sea level risen by in the last century? 5 Homework 2 – Climate Change (LIT 3-22a / LIT 4-22a)
Speech As President of the European Nations or a Celebrity passionate about Climate Change, you must write a speech addressing your peers on the subject of Climate Change. Your speech should include: 2 x physical and 2 x human causes 1 x local and 1 x global impact 2 x solutions to climate change Need some inspiration? 6 Homework 3 – Earth Science (LIT 3-28a)
Use the website above to create a timeline from the Earth’s crust going all the down the approx 6400km to the core of the earth. Your timeline should include 8 stops and have the distance travelled, the section of the earth you are in and the fact included e.g 1100m – the crust – Deepest volcano active volcano in the Pacific Want to find out more? Why not annotate the earth structure diagram to include information about each layer

These homework tasks are ongoing throughout the 6 – 8 lessons you complete in class about earthquakes. The information you gather in these homework tasks will form your Earthquake case study

8 Homework 4 – Earthquake Case Study (LIT 3-15a / LIT 4-15a)
You need to choose a specific earthquake to base your research on. It can be any earthquake or tsunami ever recorded, the choice is yours! Describe the formation of earthquakes (name the plate margin, describe the movement of the plates, convection currents mention the names of plates specific to your case study) To help you get started: For the Christchurch earthquake in New Zealand in , the pacific and Indo-Australian plate slid past each other. This is known as a _____ plate boundary (b) With the aid of an annotated diagram describe the structure of an earthquake. Your diagram should include, epicentre, focus, seismic waves

(c )Describe the impact on people and the landscape (4 x points for people and 4 x points for landscape) Remember to write in full sentences and try to include figures or statistic in your answer. E.g One impact on people in the Christchurch earth was loss of life were known to of died. (d) What aid was provided following the earthquake? (3 x short term aid and 4 x long term aid)

This task was designed to help to conduct research into an earthquake of your choice. You are encouraged to look at different sources of information to help answer the questions in the success criteria ‘I can make notes and organise them to develop my thinking, help retain and recall information, explore issues and create new texts, using my own words as appropriate.’ LIT 3-15a / LIT 4-15a To meet this literacy outcome have you: Finds, selects and sorts relevant information from a variety of sources for a range of purposes. Summarises key information using own words. Uses own words to make and organise notes, selecting key information and linking ideas from more than one source. Uses notes to create new texts that show understanding of the topic or issue and draw on information from more than one source.
