Movement is easier when food is scarce. Life encourages cooperation and language skills. Special weapons and tools develop for hunting and digging up plants.

13 Disadvantages People are always searching for new food sources.
It is more difficult to store food. People must carry everything along when traveling. Only simple social organization was possible.

27 Optional Activity 2 Using what we know about characteristics of civilization, let’s decide whether Houston would qualify! What are some examples of specialized workers in Houston? What are some examples of complex institutions in Houston? How can we tell whether or not Houston is an advanced city? What are some examples of advanced technology in Houston? Does Houston have record keeping? How do you know?

28 Closing-Name Tents Pick up a piece of paper from the front.
Fold it hot-dog style. Write your name in LARGE LETTERS on the front. Flip it open. On the inside, answer these questions: What do you like to do outside of school? What do you need from me in order to successful? What are some of your favorites? (color, ice cream, movie, music, etc.) Is there anything I should know about you to help you be more successful? What is your favorite thing about Cy Woods? Least favorite thing?
