4 Old Quebec City is the only walled city in North America today…

5 Old Quebec City is surrounded by “La Citadelle”, which is a huge star-shaped fortress.

The word “porte” means “door” in English. Porte St. Jean and Porte St. Louis are two doors in the walls of Old Quebec.

10 In Upper Town, the streets are very narrow, and the buildings are very tall!

13 Just in case you’re not a fan of French cuisine…

14 The Chateau Frontenac is the most photographed building in Canada…and one of the top most photographed places in the world!

16 To get down to Lower Town, you can take “La Funiculaire”, which is a large, glass-walled elevator that moves diagonally up and down the steep cliffs surrounding the Upper Town.

17 You can also take the stairs from the Upper Town to the Lower Town, and back again!

18 If you’re feeling adventurous, you can take the Dufferin Slides (wintertime only!)

19 Place Royale, Lower Old Town

20 In the spring and summer, you can buy art in the alleys in Lower Town.

26 An old French armory. The Plains in springtime…as you can see from the picnic table, it is now a public park!

P.S. The skyscrapers are part of the New Quebec City!

30 This is the town of Levi, which is located across the river from Quebec City. The English likely camped out along this shoreline as they waited to attack the city.

This beautiful waterfall is also across the St. Laurence River from Quebec City.

34 Quebec City is famous for its “Carnival d’hiver” (“winter carnival”)

One of the coolest (pardon the pun!) things about Carnival is the ice palace that is built each year! You can even stay overnight in the rooms!
