Paper 3 pre release paper
The easiest exam you will ever take 3 minutes to skim read the pre-release booklet Topic = Any learning you have previously done that you think could be useful for this exam = Watch video – explain that you normally have to thik for yourself the exam board is removing that condition giving you the resources and likey q beforehand

Oxford anomaly = chalk hills (relief rain)
3
Describe the pattern of annual rainfall in the UK (3 marks)
Use DiCE Direction (north, south, east, west) Countries, Wales, Scotland, counties, Cornwall, Evidence – use the key (numbers (mm)!! Calculate the range and % difference Oxford anomaly = chalk hills (relief rain) Highest rainfall in West maximum of 2800mm in Scottish highlands. Wales and SW have areas of mm general pattern of decline from west to east, lowest figures in east midlands and south east of between mm a range of up to 2000mm from SE to NW. An anomaly includes…Se has only 18% of rain that NW has!. 100km to west of highest rainfall = area of less than 1000 mm rainfall

Explain the pattern of annual rainfall in the UK (3 marks)
Rainfall is higher in the west of the United Kingdom because of warm wet air from the A______ Ocean being forced to r_____ over highland and coastal areas such as B________ Moor which in turn c____ and c_________ on condensation nuclei (dust) in the atmosphere creating c_______. The constant flow of hot air (the Gulf stream) means that clouds get to heavy and burst causing as high as 2800mm of p_____________ to fall on the West of Great Britain. This cool air then d________ and warms over the l__________ side of the highlands creating a r___________ and drier conditions (as low as 500mm in the East) High ability explain frictional drag

Explain the pattern of annual rainfall in the UK (3 marks)
Rainfall is higher in the west of the United Kingdom because of warm wet air from the Atlantic Ocean being forced to rise over highland and coastal areas such as Bodmin Moor which in turn cools and condenses on condensation nuclei (dust) in the atmosphere creating clouds. The constant flow of hot air (the Gulf stream) means that clouds get to heavy and burst causing as high as 2800mm of precipitation to fall on the West of Great Britain. This cool air then descends and warms over the leeward side of the highlands creating a rainshadow and drier conditions (as low as 500mm in the East) Oxford anomaly = chalk hills (relief rain) Highest rainfall in West maximum of 2800mm in Scottish highlands.

Need to discuss why water usage is increasing – key point is THE DEMAND FOR A HIGH QOL Growing population can be discussed here but is not per person. – use of more luxury white good items e.g. dishwasher to save time. Import of more exotic foods / products, greater use of electricity = more cooling needed. Rising temperaturs more extreme variations in temp= more need for water usage summer hydration winter heating Task – Read and highlight the key facts / information on water usage in the UK Extension – Using the figure; If water usage is 150L in 2017 what will it be in 2027?

Wales = no data. Describe the pattern of water stress in England? The area of highest water stress is…. As you move away from the south east the level of water stress decreases, however an exception is….

Underground sources so issues of subsidence and cost
Underground sources so issues of subsidence and cost!. Removal of water from river = reduction in habitat, reduction in flow more deposition of bed load material potentially greater risk of flooding Explain the pattern of water stress in England? The south east has the highest water stress because of the low / high amounts of rain and the low/high population. The west of the UK has a lower level of water stress because of the high/low rainfall and the higher/lower population density.

SE – rising pop 90% of new private jobs in London, rich continue to demand high QOL, greater agricultural demand due to high pop, difficulty in exporting food from EU, drier summers = more water demand. Warmer summers = more hydration Leakage will fall because of investment in system and need for business to save water to be profitable. Add the term sustainable development next to the first paragraph! “Meeting needs of present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” Why will SE England demand increase?

higher, lower, more, less, longer, shorter
Circle all the useful information provided by the exam board Compare / What are the differences between the suggested water transfer schemes and the existing water transfer schemes (4 marks) Compare words = Whereas, however, but higher, lower, more, less, longer, shorter Suggested = longer up to 400km Current = shorter maximum of 100km. Suggested all travel from west to east or north to south, current travel in all directions. Suggested all head in land, current inland and coastal direction

Text – read through using pdf on board.
Suggested = longer up to 400km Current = shorter maximum of 100km. Suggested all travel from west to east or north to south, current travel in all directions. Suggested all head in land, current inland and coastal direction
