2 Kings Jesus And Spiritual Warfare
Look At The Book! 2 Kings Jesus And Spiritual Warfare
2
Jesus As The Angel Of The Lord
Like 1 Kings, no direct prophecy concerning Jesus in 2 Kings. He is present, though, in many ways. One particularly dramatic appearance happens as “the angel of the Lord.” Today we’ll explore spiritual warfare and when God fights for His people.
3
A Season Of Great Miracles
1 & 2 Kings reveal a great time of many miracles performed by the Lord through Elijah and Elisha. The purpose of the miracles was to direct the hearts of the people back to Almighty God. About 6 miracles reportedly performed by Elijah, and 18 by Elisha.

The Point: It’s All About God
For example: Elijah and Elisha are referred to most often as “the man of God.” 2 Kings 4:42 – Now a man came from Baal- shalishah, and brought the man of God bread of the first fruits, twenty loaves of barley and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And he said, “Give them to the people that they may eat.” 2 Kings 5:8 -- It happened when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent word to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Now let him come to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.”

When God Fights For His People
Throughout the book of 2 Kings, Aram is one of the most persistent enemies. They are kin – descending from Shem, but enemies all the same. Modern day Syria. Genesis 10:22 – “The sons of Shem were Elam and Asshur and Arpachshad and Lud and Aram.”
8
Aram The Enemies Of Israel
Mentioned some 41 times in 2 Kings. God helped His faithful people in the war against Aram. 2 Kings 6:8-23 – relates an account when the king of Aram decides to kidnap Elisha, because God is revealing the kings plans to Elisha. 2 Kings 6:12 – “One of his servants said, ‘No, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.”
9
The Army of God 2 Kings 6:15-17 – “Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” And the Lord opened the servant’s eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”
10
God Fights Aram Aram besieged Samaria and a great famine ensued. Became so bad that cannibalism occurred because people were starving. God stepped in and fought for Israel. 2 Kings 7:6 – “For the Lord had caused the army of the Arameans to hear a sound of chariots and a sound of horses, even the sound of a great army, so that they said to one another, ‘Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.’”
11
The Angel Of The Lord 2 Kings 19 The enemy that time was Assyria.
God did not simply scare them away. 2 Kings 19:35 – “Then it happened that night that the angel of the Lord went out and struck 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians; and when men rose early in the morning, behold, all of them were dead.
12
Spiritual Warfare Today
There are many liars and pretenders today faking spiritual warfare. True spiritual warfare depends upon what God is doing, more than what we are doing. Psalm 34:7 – “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and rescues them.”
13
We Have Divinely Powerful Weapons
2 Corinthians 10:3-6 --For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but [b]divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, and we are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever your obedience is complete.”
14
We Have Spiritual Armor
Ephesians 6:10-18 Strong in the Lord and in His might v. 12 – “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
15
What Is Our Armor? Belt of truth Breastplate of righteousness
Boots of the preparation of the gospel of peace Shield of faith Helmet of salvation Sword of the Spirit In short, the word of God and our response to it constitutes the undefeatable armor of God.
16
God Will Fight For Us 2 Timothy 4:16-18 – “…but the Lord stood with me and strengthened me…The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
17
We Must Remain Ready James 4:7-8 – “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” Don’t buy in to fake spiritual warfare.
