SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS
Title: Bucket Mounted Can Setter SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS KEY POINTS SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Pre-Ops Check: All of the safe operating procedures outlined in the SWI for scoop must be adhered to when operating the Scoop Bucket Mounted Can Setter. Make a walk-around visual examination of the scoop and can setter unit. Check the entire unit for oil leaks and damaged hoses. Check the panic bar. The scoop is equipped with a diversion valve to switch from the scoop hydraulics to the can setter hydraulics. Always examine the Roof and Ribs in the immediate area around the scoop and in the area where cans are to be unloaded, transported and set. Scale down or support loose roof and ribs as necessary. Do not allow oil, grease, coal, or other combustible materials to accumulate on the can setter. The panic bar should operate freely and must de-energize the scoop when activated. The scoop must never be operated if the panic bar is malfunctioning. Repairs to the panic bar must be made prior to operating the unit. In the can setter position the hydraulic controls on the scoop should not function,

SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS
Title: Bucket Mounted Can Setter SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS KEY POINTS SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Operation: Make sure persons are in the clear of the scoop, bucket and can setter. The Can Setter operator must stay clear of the scoop until it has come to a complete stop, is in position to set the can and the brakes are set. Once the scoop is in position to set the can the scoop operator should lower the bucket to the ground, set the brakes, and switch the diversion valve to the can setter hydraulics position. With the scoop in position and a check of the scoop controls has been made, the Can Setter operator can move the Can Setter controls. The Can Setter operator must become completely familiar with the control functions of the unit. When setting a can the operator should not completely release a can until it has been secured in place. Can Setter controls are run from a valve bank on the side of the can setter. Make sure that the can is still in the claw while you are blocking and wedging it to the top. Never dig or wedge under a can while it is in the air in the claws. Always make sure that the can is set solid on the mine floor. Make sure that the can is set the proper distance from the previous can both ways according to the plan. Make sure that the can is set plumb and level. If the scoop controls do function in the can setter position, repairs to the system must be made prior to operating the unit. The hydraulic position marking on the diversion valve must always be maintained in a legible condition. Clear lines of communication between the scoop operator, the can setter operator, and personnel setting the cans is extremely important and must be maintained at all times. One person is to give direction to the scoop operator. Make sure that the scoop operator and the person giving directions know who will be communicating with one another. The Can Setter operator must never remain at the Can Setter controls while the scoop is in motion. During the can setting operation the operator will have his/her back to the rib. Continually monitor the roof and ribs. Scale loose materials as necessary. The operator should try each control to insure that it controls the correct function in the proper direction. Never leave cans “free standing”. When picking up a can make sure that the claws close tight around the can before picking it up and keep pressure on it at all times. Never have any body part near a can while still in the air in the claws
