HISTORY OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
1900’s research on many different intelligences 1985 Rueven Bar-On EQi- the measurement 1989 John Mayer & Peter Salovey “emotional intelligence” 1995 Daniel Goleman popularized emotional intelligence 1940-Wechsler--Realized that IQ was not on it’s own satisfactory as a test of human functioning. Saw the need to test the “other aspects of people that determined how successful they were in life” HISTORY OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

EI COMPETENCIES Intrapersonal EMOTIONAL SELF AWARENESS
Ability to recognize, understand and differentiate feelings and understand what causes them. don't like self esteen--self regard tied to accomplishments, what kind of a person you are. Assertiveness- Setting and defending your boundaries without violating boundaries of others To what degree you have accomplished what you have set out to accomplish in life Independence not as important in some cultures-important in North America EI COMPETENCIES
