2. Initially, IOAPA was funded with a federal grant—Senator Tom Harkin worked to help secure funds. Now IOAPA is funded by the state of Iowa. Since the beginning of IOAPA, the number of students enrolling in AP coursework throughout Iowa has continued to increase.

4. AP exams are scored on a 1 – 5
AP exams are scored on a 1 – 5. A 3 is considered to be equivalent to a C; 4=B, 5=A. Many colleges and universities accept scores of 3 or higher for students wishing to have AP exams replace required college coursework.

5. Dual Enrollment and AP course taking are both important opportunities for students to have in high school. However, it is very important for students to understand that colleges and universities might view AP courses and concurrent credit courses differently. Students and parents should be clear about the differences and the impact they may have on college course requirements.
