IECC 2012 Code Learning Objectives
1. Design code compliant Occupancy Sensor solutions for rooms with ‘4 walls and 1 door’. 2. Design code compliant Lighting Control relay panel solutions for automatic sweep off controls. 3. Design manual daylighting control zones and use lighting control panels to meet code for these areas. 4. Understand the triggers for automatic daylighting control requirements based on skylight and fenestration area

Manual Daylighting Controls
C402 - BUILDING ENVELOPE REQUIREMENTS < 30% Glazing < 3% Skylights Manual Daylighting Controls C Maximum area. The vertical fenestration area (not including opaque doors and opaque spandrel panels) shall not exceed 30 percent of the gross above-grade wall area. The skylight area shall not exceed 3 percent of the gross roof area. C Increased vertical fenestration area with daylighting controls. In Climate Zones 1 through 6, a maximum of 40 percent of the gross above-grade wall area shall be permitted to be vertical fenestration, provided: 1. No less than 50 percent of the conditioned floor area is within a daylight zone; 2. Automatic daylighting controls are installed in daylight zones; and 3. Visible transmittance (VT) of vertical fenestration is greater than or equal to 1.1 times solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC). Exception: Fenestration that is outside the scope of NFRC 200 is not required to comply with Item 3. C Increased skylight area with daylighting controls. The skylight area shall be permitted to be a maximum of 5 percent of the roof area provided automatic daylighting controls are installed in daylight zones under skylights.

Less than 0.5 Watts per square foot.
C When an enclosed space is greater than 10,000 square feet with a ceiling height greater than 15 ft skylights and daylighting controls are required. C Exception spaces where the designed general lighting power densities are Less than 0.5 Watts per square foot.

3rd party Commissioning agents
C408 - SYSTEM COMMISSIONING “approved party independent from the design or construction of the project shall be responsible for the functional testing” 3rd party Commissioning agents C408.3 Lighting system functional testing. Controls for automatic lighting systems shall comply with Section C408.3. C Functional testing. Testing shall ensure that control hardware and software are calibrated, adjusted, programmed and in proper working condition in accordance with the construction documents and manufacturer’s installation instructions. The construction documents shall state the party who will conduct the required functional testing. Where required by the code official, an approved party independent from the design or construction of the project shall be responsible for the functional testing and shall provide documentation to the code official certifying that the installed lighting controls meet the provisions of Section C405. Where occupant sensors, time switches, programmable schedule controls, photosensors or daylighting controls are installed, the following procedures shall be performed: 1. Confirm that the placement, sensitivity and time-out adjustments for occupant sensors yield acceptable performance. 2. Confirm that the time switches and programmable schedule controls are programmed to turn the lights off. 3. Confirm that the placement and sensitivity adjustments for photosensor controls reduce electric light based on the amount of usable daylight in the space as specified.

C405.2.4 Exterior lighting controls
Lighting not designed for dusk to dawn operation shall be controlled by either a combination of a photosensor and a time switch, or an astronomical time switch. Lighting designated for dusk to dawn operation shall be controlled by an astronomical time switch or photosensor. C Exterior Lighting Zones Lighting Zone 1 Developed areas of national parks, state parks, forest land, and rural areas Lighting Zone 2 Areas predominantly consisting of residential zoning, neighborhood business districts, light industrial with limited nighttime use and residential mixed use areas Lighting Zone 3 All other areas Lighting Zone 4 High-activity commercial districts in major metropolitan areas as designated by the local land use planning authority

C405.6.2 POWER ALLOWANCES FOR BUILDING EXTERIORS
What areas are covered under exterior lighting allowances? Tradable surfaces Common exterior lighted needs that can be traded for other needs. For example, wattage allowed for parking lot lighting can be “traded” and used for canopy lighting. Nontradable surfaces Less common exterior lighted needs that cannot be traded for other needs. These applications have more specific security or task illuminance needs. Non-tradable Building facades Automated teller machines and night depositories Entrances and gatehouse inspection stations at guarded facilities Loading areas for law enforcement, fire, ambulance and other emergency vehicles Drive-up windows/doors Parking near 24-hour retail entrances
