Although times were tough, many people had time for fun and still enjoy the games we still play today Toys such as dolls, wooden swords, and hobbyhorses were popular as were games such as chess, backgammon, cards, checkers, and lawn bowling

While these games were played, the Church frowned upon them as well as dancing or betting on dice Townspeople also celebrated festivals and activities such as animal baiting were popular

Fairs were always crowded and jugglers, minstrels, dancers, and clowns would entertain the crowds Guild members would parade the streets in costumes and carry banners

Guild members would perform mystery plays where they acted out stories from the Bible They also performed miracle plays which would dramatize the lives of saints, but the Church also eventually disapproved of both these plays
