5 Decide which length you plan to use on the Bandaid.
Then check to be sure your bandaids are all the same length. These small Band aids have 2 different side lengths. So he matched up all the blue lines on top of each other to have them all turned the same way She laid her side by side to check the lengths are equal.

6 These 2 Bandaids have the same length but different widths
. I can use them as long as I use the same side each time. Same length but different covers. They can go together as well.

7 Lay your 5 Bandaids in a line. Keep it straight. Use the paper edge.
This could work if the unit of measure is the width of each bandaid. But does the student understand? These might be a little straighter if they followed the edge of the paper. These are both straight with no overlap. But the edge of the top one is not very straight.

8 Check Your Bandaids have no gaps or overlaps between them.
These all have gaps...

9 Tape the bandaids down and cut off the extra.
Label each bandaid by its length.

10 This is a Grade 2 student and he called each bandaid length a 10, but I wonder 10 what?
How will he name the measures he makes? It is not 10 bandaids in between each number, so 10 what? I do not think this demonstrates understanding.

11 Measure things with your bandaid ruler.
The pen is about 2 bandaids long. The pen is a bit longer than 2 bandaids. The scissors are a little bit more than 3 bandaids long.

12 I marked the halves so I can talk about more or less than half
I marked the halves so I can talk about more or less than half. You see how it gets more confusing to read. The box is one bandaid and a half of the next bandaid long. That is 1 and a half The glue is about 1 and one half of another bandaid long.

13 It is just a little more than 1 bandaid long, how do I know?
The real challenge with using a measuring tool..... How long is the yellow pad? It is just a little more than 1 bandaid long, how do I know? It is much easier to understand when you can see the bandaid fits in the between 2 and 3 and so does the yellow pad.
