About AIAI
AIAI at the University of Edinburgh is a part of the largest AI group in Europe. It is an internationally renowned centre in applying innovative AI techniques to real-world problems. Its mission is to promote the applications of AI research for the benefit of commercial, industrial, and government clients.
AIAI has worked with small innovative companies and with research groups in larger corporations. It specialises in Intelligent Systems that make use of the knowledge of experts, or acquire knowledge through its own operations to store and accumulate knowledge to resolve similar new problems using automated methods. Yellow Pages Layout using Advanced Constraint-based Methods AIAI, School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh Every one of the tens of millions of copies of Yellow Pages in the UK are laid out using advanced constraint-based software jointly designed and produced by Edinburgh University's Artificial Intelligence Applications Institute and Pindar Set Ltd. The Formation system and methods allow for much more flexible layout, dynamic promise of specific advert positions to customers at point of sale, and savings on waste filler space and hence paper and other costs. The algorithms also won an international award for innovative artificial intelligence, and led to the creation of new business opportunities for Pindar in the UK and abroad.
