3. Introduction Who am I and my background Why are we here this morning?
Referrals are down 61% this year
4th/5th grade students surveyed prior to break
My background and why I am providing the training. Why are we meeting? Referrals beginning of school to September 21st reduced 61% by implementing RTI2-B. Majority of referrals this year are from the bus. 4th/5th grade students were surveyed prior to Fall Break about behavior % self reported that students usually follow the school-wide expectations. 61.2% felt staff rewarded/praised student for following school expectations. 75.8% felt there was an adult they could tell a problem to at school.

4. Context Buses often have low adult-student ratios
Approximately 50% of K-12 students are transported using school buses daily in the US (United States Department of Education, 2013) averaging 54 students and only one driver per route (School Transportation News, 2009).

Limited supervision
Excessive amounts of downtime for social interaction (Fox, 1995)

5. CES Bus Rules
Share lesson plan and bus poster. Review rules with drivers. Explain how their expectations can fall under the 3 main expectations. Keep referring back to the expectations.

6. Bus Bucks Bus bucks: Handed out to students for following bus rules.
Tips:
Rules are visibly posted on the bus
Rewards linked to expectations
Use at least a 3:1 acknowledgement to correction ratio
Bus bucks are handed out on same route the behavior occurred
Student told specific reason for receiving the bus buck

7. Mentoring program
We are offering a bus behavior mentoring program for those interested. This would give you another driver to talk to about behaviors and help brainstorm ways to prevent the behavior from occurring again. Informal: no paperwork involved. Just giving you another resource.
If a high rate of write ups are occurring (greater than 5 a day), then let's take a look at what we can do to help change what is happening.  Speak to a mentor, member of the behavior team (Templeton, Bogan, Oneal, Merriman, York, Damron, Khan)
Referrals will need to be turned in the same day as the behavior so it can be addressed in a timely manner. Students often forget by the next day what occurred and remediation is not as effective.
