1 In-class Exercise Guidelines
Dr. Joan Burtner, Certified Quality Engineer Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering and Industrial Management

2 Choice of Test (Normal Distribution)
One-sample t in Excel: Do not artificially add a second sample that consists of all of the same values. Instead conduct the test in Minitab. Two groups of data: Be sure to determine if the data are matched. If so, conduct a paired t-test instead of a two sample t-test. Three groups of data: Conduct a one way ANOVA when you have three or more groups of data and a single factor. You will have one set of hypotheses and one p-value. Two factors: Conduct a two factor ANOVA. You will have three sets of hypotheses and three p-values. ISE 468 ETM Dr. Joan Burtner

3 Reporting Results State full hypothesis, including label
Mu = 7 incorrect Mu A = Mu B incorrect H0: Mu A = Mu B correct Be careful when stating alternate hypothesis for an ANOVA H0: Mu A = Mu B = Mu C correct H1: Mu A ≠ Mu B ≠ Mu C incorrect Do not use “null hypothesis” in the conclusion. Do not conclude the means are equal. You may conclude the mean wait times are not significantly different. Use the word significant when the p-value is less than 0.05. Do not conclude the population means are different when p-value is greater than 0.05. ISE 468 ETM Dr. Joan Burtner
