6 How are you meeting these demands?
How many of you… Offer online resources such as paper-based handouts or website resources? Offer online advising, counseling or tutoring sessions? Offer supplemental online videos? Offer an online FYE course? I want to get a better sense of where you are all at in addressing the needs of these students. Raise hands

7 Share Strategies What do you have available to students 24/7 to support first year student success? What creative ideas do you have for maintaining or improving student support given budget decreases? Do you have students who cannot attend on-campus workshops or miss classes due to outside commitments? How do you accommodate these students? Each table will have a question card – take 2 minutes to answer each of these questions.

25 Feedback from Staff I watched the "Choosing a Major" workshop and loved it! This is exactly what Karen, James, and I have been working on for the last year. Not having the technical know how, our presentation does not look or sound as great as this. We love the videos! We have used them with students who are on probation/suspension. We have given them to our professors teaching our first year experience classes. The responses have been very positive. Please let us know if you develop any new titles. Need to add some of Denise’s comments here. Quotes from staff.

26 Student Feedback Overall the workshop was very helpful, but the most important thing i learned it today was know how pay attention and assess my study skills which help me relax and relief the anxiety. I rate her presentation as an excellent because the examples she gave were from students experience and also discussed the most issues the student may face that hinder him/her from focusing and loosing thier academic progress. Overall all the strategies discussed in the workshop are very helpful. but the most helpful and beneficial strategy is cognitive restructuring. Turning something into a positive by self-refection. Need to add some of Denise’s comments here. Quotes from staff.

27 Why? Problems Students don’t attend student success workshops, because they cannot make it to campus or they don’t think they will use the information. They need the information when they need it. Students miss critical class lectures due to absences. Students don’t attend student success workshops, because they cannot make it to campus or don’t have the time. Therefore workshop attendance is low and faculty and staff are frustrated. I need to prove to administration that students need on-demand services Solutions Accessible: Access the site 24/7. Just in time training. For example, a student is taking a test the next day and needs some multiple choice strategies. The student can access the workshop from home in order to prepare for the test. Engaging: Interactive and effective presentations, action plans and resources. All workshops are practical and can be applied immediately. Cost-Effective: Serve students (incoming and current), faculty, staff and parents for one low price. And we do the work for you! Tracking IE can run monthly reports for you so you know how many students are viewing each workshop. Mention student

28 Next Steps Spanish versions are in production
Available August 2011 Brainstorming other versions geared toward specific student populations Veterans First Generation Adults Online Learner Parents What else should I add here? Should I talk about how many schools are using it?
