I burned dinner even though I was watching it closely. (Two independent clauses connected by a FANBOYS or a semicolon) S = Simple Sentence C = Compound Sentence X = Complex Sentence CX = Compound-Complex Sentence I burned dinner, and that happened even though I was watching it. (A dependent clause FOLLOWED by an independent clause that requires a comma separating them) Even though I was watching it closely, I burned dinner. Even though I was watching it closely, I burned dinner, and it ruined my romantic evening.

X = Introductory Clause or Phrase a = Aside ec = Ending Clause
(Information before the main subject and verb) Regretably, I burned dinner. (An interruption in a sentence that is not necessary information) X = Introductory Clause or Phrase a = Aside ec = Ending Clause I burned dinner, which was regretable, even though I was watching it closely. (a clause at the end of the core sentence, which is preceded by a comma IF it could not be placed at the beginning of the sentence) I burned dinner even though I was watching it closely, which was stupid. I burned dinner even though I was watching it closely.

(a group of words that does not have a subject AND verb and complete thought) I burned dinner even though F= Fragment RO = Run-on (two sentences run together without the proper punctuation) I burned dinner I was watching it closely, too.
