12.14.17 Identify the type of cell transport
I can describe and draw the four parts of the cell membrane.
2
The Cell Membrane A fluid mosaic model that provides support and protection for the cell.
3
Phospholipids Phospholipids have a hydrophilic head (glycerol) and two hydrophobic tails (fatty acids). Function -- majority of the membrane, allows for diffusion through the membrane
4
Cholesterol Cholesterol molecules are a waxy chain of fat.
Function -- these keep the membrane stable (not too fluid, not too stiff)
5
Proteins Made of chains of amino acids folded together to make a specific shape. Function -- transport substances, receive messages, recognize cells, connect cells…
6
Carbohydrates Carbohydrates are made up of chains of sugar molecules.
Function — cell recognition.
7
Where does transport happen?
