‘S Factor’ Athletics Club
Sports Newsletter – Autumn Term 2017 Welcome to our first Sports Newsletter. We hope to bring you a round up each term of the wonderful activities and sports the children have been taking part in. Active kids are healthy kids! There have been some shocking statistics recently regarding the health of children due to their diet and inactivity. We are really keen that our children should be fit and healthy and develop good habits while they are young. We will be encouraging them to be as active as possible, starting in our PE lessons where we will be focusing on improving fitness levels as well as learning new skills. Please make sure the children always have their PE kits in school and that their shoes fit well so they are not too tight and uncomfortable and they are not so loose that they fall off when they run. Football Festival On 5th October, nine of our Year 5 and Year 6 boys took part in a Football Festival, held at the Whitefoot Lane playing fields of Bonus Pastor. Our team played brilliantly against five other local Catholic schools finishing in second place, one point behind the winners, St Winifreds. Well done Ollie, Christopher and Caleb in Year 5 and Ekene, Lawrence, Emmanuel, Daniel J, Daniel T, and Jacob in Year 6. Thank you also to Mrs Mole and Mrs Loughnane who accompanied the team as well as the parents and carers who went to support the team. ‘S Factor’ Athletics Club If you enjoy athletics why not pop along to visit the ‘S Factor’ Athletics club at Ladywell Arena SE6 4QX? Children can take part in different athletics events and fun activities and it is open to anyone of any ability to participate. The club runs on: Saturday 10am-12pm or Wednesdays 6pm-7.30pm For more information: Athletics Festival On 9th November we took part in the annual Sports Hall Athletics event at Bonus Pastor. Holy Cross was represented by Lily, Christine, Deborah, Mirella, George, Hugo, Filip, Paulius, Elizabeth, Mildred, Solange, Sophie, Jacob, James and Kamil who competed in throwing, jumping and running events. The atmosphere was very exciting and we showed great team spirit with everyone cheering and shouting for each other. Well done to all those who took part and thank you to the parents who came along and supported our young athletes too. Physical activity is known to improve attainment. Activity helps improve focus, concentration and behaviour so walking to school is a great way to start the day!
