NDSR Mission(s) ... to develop the next generation of stewards to collect, manage, preserve, and make accessible our nation’s digital assets ... to provide residents with a combination of hands-on learning and expert guidance ... help define clear educational standards for digital stewardship education and training NDSR = National Digital Stewardship Residency US-based Program to build the next generation of digital stewards It is designed to complement graduate-level preservation and curation programs by providing graduates of these programs with an opportunity to work in institutions on real-world projects alongside a mentor working in that institution And it is helping to define the standard for education and training in this field

NDSR Programs The program started in the DC area through a partnership between the Library of Congress and IMLS. It was always intended to be a national program now. Since then it has spread to NY and Boston with the help of IMLS funding. It’s still on the East Coast but there is a lot of interest to bring up NDSR programs in other parts of the country and also to experiment with virtual cohorts in places where the potential hosts aren’t close to each other geographically. IMLS-funded grants to test DC model in New York (METRO) and Boston areas (Harvard / MIT) and nationally, virtually (WGBH)

Timeline We are here 10 residents in DC 5 residents in DC
5 residents in NY 5 residents in Boston 9/14 6/14 9/14 6/15 9/15 5 residents in NY 5 residents in Boston 6/16 35 residents over 6 cohorts The DC pilot ended last summer so we had an opportunity to learn from their experience before we started ours. The NY program is running at the same time as ours so we have an opportunity for the Boston and NY residents to interact with each other. Next year will be interesting because the next round in DC will overlap with the next NY and Boston rounds so this will be an opportunity for us to explore ways to build the national part of NDSR, sharing resources and communicating across our programs. We are here
