2. The works cited page
The Works Cited page should direct readers to your sources.
It contains all of the material not included in in-text citations that readers would need to know in order to find the source themselves.
Each works cited entry is formatted by type of source. For example, books are formatted differently from newspaper articles, etc.

3. Your Rhetorical Precis
For your third rhetorical precis, I am going to ask you to include a Works Cited entry for the article.
Because the reading appears in your textbook, we are considering it a work in an anthology.

4. Author
The first piece of information in your works cited entry should be the author’s first and last name.
In MLA formatting, we reverse the order of the names, so you’ll begin with the last name, and then give the first name.
It should look like this:
Last name, first name.
Cullington, Michaela.

5. Article Title
The next piece of information you should include in your citation is the title of the article in quotation mark. It should look like this:
“Article Title.”
“Does Texting Affect Writing?”
Don’t forget to capitalize each word in the title and include the question mark in the quotation marks.

6. Book Title Next, include the book title, italicized.
It should look like this:
Title of Book,
They Say I Say with Readings 3rd edition,
To indicate italics on your handwritten papers, put a squiggly line under what goes in italics.

7. Editors
Next we need to include the names of the editors who edited the anthology. These are the textbook authors, since they collected and arranged the readings.
It shoud look like this:
Edited by Editor’s Name(s),
Edited by Gerald Graff, Cathy Birkenstein, and Russel Durst,

8. Publisher
Next we need to include the name of the publishing company that published the book.
You should be able to find this information on the book spine or inside cover page.
It shoud look like this:
Publisher Name,
Norton,

9. Year of Publication Next you should include the year of publication.
Include the most recent year given.
It should look like this:
Year of publication,
2015,

10. Page Numbers
The last piece of information you need to include is the start and end page of the article in the anthology.
It should look like this
pp. start page-end page. pp
Don’t forget to put a period at the end of the entry.

11. Putting it all together
Here’s the formula you should use for your works cited entry:
Last name, first name. “Article Title.” Book Title, Edited by Editor’s Name(s), Publisher, Year, pp. start page-end page.
Cullington, Michaela. “Does Texting Affect Writing.” They Say I Say with Readings 3rd edition, Edited by Gereald Graff, Cathy Birkenstein, and Russel Durst, Norton, 2015, pp
The entry should be double spaced, and second (and subsequent) lines of the citation should be indented.
