What we’ve discussed… The principles from MEC are helpful
What have we done Focused on structure of preclinical years, ~7.5% decrease in course hours No more that 24 hours scheduled in any week Preclinical ends in mid-February of year 2 (~2.5 months earlier than current) Reviewed several models of preclinical that integrate current year 1 and 2 courses Intentional repetition and consolidation periods at the end of each block and at end of preclinical Some things still to discuss Specific pedagogical requirements/recommendations for years 1 & 2 Attendance policy for preclinical Cumulative examinations Moving Step 1 to during or after clinical clerkships Transition period and relationship to core clerkships Sharing and getting feedback from others (course directors, students, faculty, faculty council, other)
