BRAINGATE SYSTEMS --Converts Thoughts into Actions
Presentation by Triveni.M Bharathi.SP
2
THEME:- UNTIL RECENTLY, controlling computers by human thought was science fiction, but it's rapidly becoming science fact.
3
BRAIN Brain is a large “hardware” component made of different organs.
Brain cells communicate with each other by producing electrical impulses. This is known as electrical activity of the brain. Due to this electrical activates brain gains overall controls into it’s hands.
4
COGNITIVE ENGINEERING
The process of receiving signals from the thoughts of a person is known as 'COGNITIVE ENGINEERING'. Two basic methods – INVASIVE : This method require a brain implant NON INVASIVE: This method doesn’t require a brain implant 4
5
INVASIVE METHOD Principle:-
Here Braingate converts brain activity into computer commands. Here a sensor is implanted on the brain, and electrodes are hooked up with wires to transmit these signals. Braingate acts as a interface between the brain and system.
7
NON-INVASIVE METHOD This method uses an EEG
(electro encephalograph) to measure the electrical activity of the brain A computer program translates electrical signals in the brain to physical outputs, which govern the movements of a computer cursor. This method doesn’t require a brain implant
8
The user wears a cap studded with electrodes
These electrodes help in transmitting the signals
9
INTERACTION PROCESSES
Signal Detection:- Detecting the “input signal” and translating it into respective action. Signal Processing & Translation:- Removes unnecessary bandwidths and generates accurate signal. Device Control:- The user chooses an action by controlling his brain activities, which is classified to corresponding action . INTERACTION PROCESSES
10
The operation protocol defines the rules and
procedures to be followed while transmitting and receiving data.

CONCLUSION The brain-computer interface will one day transform the lives of severely handicapped people, eventually enabling them to operate artificial limbs as easily as if they were their own.
