7 NCAA Requirements – Eligibility for Competition
By start of second year Pass 24 credits during freshman year (includes summer term) All student-athletes Pass 18 credits over Fall and Spring (summer excluded) Pass 6 degree credits each semester Passing grade as determined by the specific college 11/19/2018

8 Big Ten Credit Requirements – Eligibility for Competition
1st year: Completion of 12 credits per term. Start of 2nd year: Completion of 12 credits per term of freshman year, and at least 24 degree credits earned at Minnesota (includes summer term) 11/19/2018

9 NCAA Requirements – Eligibility for Competition
40/60/80 percentage of degree If 120 credits required for degree Start of 3rd year: 48 degree credits. Start of 4th year: 72 degree credits. Start of 5th year: 96 degree credits. 11/19/2018

10 Big Ten GPA Requirements – Eligibility for competition
After 1st semester of freshman year, must have a 1.65 gpa to compete for following semester No longer effective for continuing students starting Fall 2011 After 1st year, must have a 2.0 gpa in order to compete at Minnesota Institutional rule Outstanding IDLs count as an ‘F’ 11/19/2018

11 2nd Degree / Graduation – NCAA
Student-athletes are eligible to compete if they are: Enrolled in and seeking a 2nd degree at the same institution or Enrolled in a graduate/professional program 11/19/2018

14 Timing of Certification
Big Ten rules stipulate student-athletes shall not become eligible for competition during a term if the student is not academically eligible prior to or on the first day of classes of that term. 11/19/2018

15 Full-Time Status – NCAA
Student-athletes must be enrolled full-time (12 cr.) to be eligible for practice, competition and athletic aid Exceptions: Last term of enrollment before graduation Graduate/Professional program 11/19/2018

16 Full-Time Status College Advisors should NEVER drop a student-athlete (SA) from a class. During weeks please send the SA to their academic counselor in athletics if they want to drop a class. After the 8th week of class a student needs College Approval in order to withdraw from a class. However, a SA still needs to see their academic counselor in athletics prior to withdrawing from the course. 11/19/2018

18 Designation of Degree Program - NCAA
5th semester of full time enrollment Student-athlete may only use hours accepted in that degree program for purposes of meeting the credit-hour requirements. 11/19/2018

Can be accomplished by: Formal enrollment by the SA in a specific degree program Sub plan in PeopleSoft reflecting proposed degree program Documented approval by an appropriate academic official of the proposed degree program 11/19/2018

Totals the number of credits actually required to complete the degree Does not allow for over-satisfaction of requirements Defines credits as degree-applicable Accuracy of APAS is extremely important 11/19/2018

Allows student-athlete to utilize NCAA exceptions to progress toward degree rules in final academic year (e.g., enrolled in less than 12 credits) 11/19/2018

Thursday, November 11th Create or update Graduation Planner Review accuracy of APAS report with Advisor Meet with College Advisor and have Grad Planner signed off for the following semester Return approved Grad Planner to MAC Advisor MAC Advisor will forward date the hold 11/19/2018
