2. General Information Student must be 16 years old
“Embedded” courses are college courses offered on the high school campus.
Students who take dual credit courses are beginning their college careers. This is a serious commitment and should only be entered into by those able to handle college-level work.
Students and parents should discuss dual credit plans with the student’s guidance counselor before approaching the school’s Dual Credit Counselor.

3. Grading Information
Dual Credit courses are reported as letter grades from Lone Star College. The letter grades are converted to numerical grades in accordance with KISD policy when posted to the high school transcript if the class is taken at the Lone Star College Campus (face to face or online).
A = 95
B = 85
C = 77
D = 72
Students who earn a “D” will receive their high school credit, but cannot continue in the program for the remainder of high school. Students must earn at least a “C” to continue in the dual credit program

4. Grading Information
A semester of a college course with a grade of an “A” or a “B” will earn a Performance Acknowledgement on the student’s diploma and transcript.
Dual credit courses earn grade points on the 6-point scale for GPA (AP/Pre-AP/DC/IB scale).
As this is not an “open enrollment” option once enrolled, a student is expected to complete a dual credit course.

5. Credit Information
Each passing grade for a 3-hour college class equals one semester of high school credit.
Dual credit students will have a college transcript in addition to their high school transcript.
Prior to graduation, it is the student’s responsibility to request that the college transcript be sent from Lone Star College to the university of their choice. Students can request a transcript on their MyLoneStar account.
Check the Texas Common Course Numbering System to determine what credit will be awarded at the college of choice for the credits earned at Lone Star College.

8. Steps for First Time Dual Credit Students
Follow instructions outlined in the “New to
Dual Credit” document handed out at course selection. The form is also on the KOHS website under the counseling tab, under the AP & DC Information.

9. Steps for Returning Dual Credit Students
Pick up a blue Dual Credit form in the dual credit counselor’s office, complete the form and return it prior to the deadline for that school year.

10. Qualifying Scores
A high school student is eligible to enroll in Dual Credit with the following TSI Assessment Scores:
Reading: score of 351
Writing: score of 340 and 4+ on essay or a score of less than 340, and an ABE Diagnostic level of at least 4, and an essay score of at least 5
Math: score of 350

12. Assessment Test at the Lone Star Campus University Park
If you do not take advantage of the pre-arranged testing opportunity provided by your home campus, please follow the steps below:
Test at the Lone Star Campus University Park
Must arrive at least 4 hours prior to closing
Must present a photo ID
No charge for first test session for dual credit students (if retest is needed, a fee of $10 will be charged for each section needed)

13. Cost of Dual Credit Course
Current cost:
On Klein ISD campus: $72 (3 credit hrs)
$132 (6 credit hours)
On LSC campus: $72 + $20 campus fee
Online course: $72 + $15 per credit hour

Effective Fall 2009, tuition costs for in-district dual credit students are waived 100% (this does not include college fees and textbooks).
Fees subject to change based on Lone Star College tuition rates.

14. Authorization to Release Student Information to Parent
FERPA – Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
Form must be signed BY THE STUDENT if a parent wants access to student grades.
If the parent is going to register for the student, the form must be received at the college by mail or fax and the STUDENT’S signature must be notarized.
Authorization is good for one year.

15. Remember!
Students are not registered for a dual credit course just by choosing the course on their course selection sheet.
Students must register and pay for the course at the campus on the advertised KISD dates.
If paying and registering at Lone Star College, return a copy of the registration statement along with proof of payment to the dual credit counselor by the deadline in order to secure your seat in a dual credit course.
