Math and English Placement is Changing At Mt. SAC

What is the AQ? The AQ is an Assessment Questionnaire that allows students to be placed in Math and English using their high school grades and classes. Students may place at a higher level based on the AQ than they do with the Assessment Test!

How can you take the AQ? You can complete the AQ online at We recommend you refer to your high school transcript to enable you to answer the questions accurately You can only take the AQ once.

Who Can Take the AQ? Anyone who completed high school in the United States including currently enrolled students. High school seniors who will soon be completing high school in the United States. Call the Assessment Center with any questions at or visit them in building 9B on the lower level.

Get Hands On Assistance in The Assessment Center (9B)
Bring an official or unofficial high school transcript Staff can help you complete the AQ and see if you are eligible for a higher level Math or English class

The Assessment Test is Still an Option
If you feel your placement is not accurate based on the AQ you can always take a Math or English Placement Test Mt. SAC will always give you the highest placement out of the AQ and Assessment Test.

If You Need to Correct an Error
You can only take the AQ once. So if you make an error and you want to correct it, bring your high school transcript to the Counseling Department in Building 9B on the upper level.
