1 What is a cylinder?

2 A cylinder is a 3D shape that with two parallel and congruent bases
What is a cylinder? A cylinder is a 3D shape that with two parallel and congruent bases

3 What does the net of a cylinder look like?
What shapes make up the Net of a Cylinder? What are the area formulas for those shapes?

4 What does the net of a cylinder look like?
What shapes make up the Net of a Cylinder? - Circles - A Rectangle What are the area formulas for those shapes? AreaRectnagle= Base x Height AreaCircle = Π r2

5 Example: Surface Area of a Cylinder
What is the surface area of the cylinder bellow? R = 3 cm H = 11 cm

6 Example: Surface Area of a Cylinder
As there are two ends to a cylinder, we multiply the area of the circular end by 2. In the case of cylinders, the base of the rectangular face is equal to the circumference of the circular end. What is the surface area of the cylinder bellow? AreaCircle = πrr = π x (3) x (3) = 28.26cm2 28.26cm2 x 2 = 52.52cm2 AreaRectangle = base x height = Circumference x Height = 2πr x h = 2 x π x 3 x 11 = cm2 Surface AreaCylinder = = cm2 R = 3 cm H = 11 cm
