2. What is Hydrofluoric Acid (HF)
One of Strongest inorganic acids
100% water soluble
BP below room temperature
Presence in labs as liquids/gases/solutions
Often used in etching processes (sometimes in tandem with other acids)
Colorless, fumes white, smells similar to HCl
Highly toxic

3. Health risks
Penetrates cells and dissociates to begin reacting with body.
Systemically reacts with calcium
F- + Ca++  CaF2
Enough F in 7 ml of anhydrous HF to bind ALL FREE CALCIUM in average adult.
ALL HF EXPOSURES require both First Aid and Medical Treatment.

4. First Aid and Treatment
Flush area if possible for 15 minutes with water
Apply calcium gluconate to affected area in appropriate manner (gel or nebulizer)
Seek medical attention.
Fatal hypocalcemia can occur: ≥25 in2 exposure for ALL concentrations
