Domino Theory – if 1 nation fell to communism, surrounding nations would soon fall to it
USA’s proof: Post WW2, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia
Containment –a policy held by the US to prevent the spread of communism
How? Attempt to win over nations to your ideological ‘camp’
Example 1: “Truman Doctrine”
U.S. President Harry S. Truman made the proclamation in an address to the U.S. Congress on March 12, 1947 amid the crisis of the Greek Civil War ( ).
The doctrine was specifically aimed at assisting governments resisting communism
stated that the US was prepared to send any money, equipment or military force to countries which were threatened by the communist government.
