Tourism Resources of India
The physical and cultural features are the real wealth of a place. This wealth can be used by the inhabitants of the place in various ways when needed. These physical and cultural features of a place are resources of a place. These resources form base for tourism. People travel to appreciate and experience the unique resources possessed by a place. Tourism is dependent upon the attractive power of these resources. The resources used in tourism industry are called tourism resources. Tourism resources form the most essential element of the tourism product. Tourism resources are present at tourist destination. Tourism resource should reflect the destination’s uniqueness. The destination should be developed keeping the authenticity of the area intact.

Types of Tourist Resources
Natural Resources –These are the resources which occur naturally within environments that exist relatively undisturbed by mankind, in a natural form. It includes: Climate Scenic beauty Landforms Beaches and Marine Areas Flora and Fauna Special Environmental Features Parks and Conservation Areas: National parks, Wild life sanctuaries. Cultural Resources- Archaeological, Historical and Cultural Sites Arts Customs and traditions Interesting Economic Activities

Tourism Product A Product is defined as anything that can be offered to a market for attention, acquisition, use, or consumption that might satisfy a want or need. It includes physical objects, services, persons, places organizations and ideas (Kotler, 1984). Tourism product is something that can be offered to tourists to visit a tourist destination. The products which satisfy the leisure, pleasure, religious or business needs at places other than the normal place of residence are known as tourism products. Tourism product can also be described as a service that can be enjoyed by tourists starting from the place of origin, while in a tourist destination and until returning back home.

Components of Tourism Product:
Attractions – Taj Mahal, Kovalam Beach, Holi of Mathura etc. Services and Facilities- Hotels, restaurants, taxi service, metro rail etc. Activities- Shopping, Trekking etc.

Characteristics of Tourism Product
Tourism products are available at the destination. Tourism products cannot be brought back with the tourist to his/her home. Tourism products cannot be stored. Tourism products cannot be owned by the tourist. Tourism products have to be purchased and then consumed by the buyer at the destination. Tourism products are made available by people. Tourism products are highly dependent upon the experience of the tourist.

Cultural Heritage Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration (UNESCO’s World Heritage). The term cultural heritage encompasses several main categories of heritage: Cultural Heritage Tangible Cultural Heritage: movable cultural heritage (paintings, sculptures, coins, manuscripts). immovable cultural heritage (monuments, archaeological sites, and so on). underwater cultural heritage (shipwrecks, underwater ruins and cities). Intangible Cultural Heritage: oral traditions, performing arts, rituals Natural Heritage: natural sites with cultural aspects such as cultural landscapes, physical, biological or geological formations Heritage in the event of Armed Conflict

Cultural Heritage Tourism
Cultural heritage tourism is traveling to experience the places, artifacts and activities that authentically represent the stories and people of the past and present. It includes cultural, historic, and natural resources (The National Trust for Historic Preservation). travel or vacationing for visiting historical sites and learning about history
