Came in with -2 years of educator experience -1 year of program administration: Homeschool, Spring and Fall programs, Festivals, Specialist program over the summer, Helping to run 6 month apprenticeship -Built a lot of curriculum there, helped other in developing curriculum Born and raised in Chicago, Rachel remembers first finding wonder among the wilderness of her neighborhood parks. It wasn’t until she found herself studying Environmental Anthropology at Wash U in St. Louis when she started working on urban farms and asking herself what her own culture’s relationship was with the earth. Rachel began seeing Jewish rituals and texts with new eyes, and it was then that she first became a Jewish earth-based educator, compiling a Jewish ecology course for her Hebrew school class. Rachel worked as an organizer after school leading campaigns around greater healthcare access, GMO labeling, and de-privatization of public services. She then became an educator and farmer at Eden Village Camp in the Hudson valley where she built curriculum, helped to manage the farm, and ran a Jewish farm educator apprenticeship. She comes to Urban Adamah as a JOFEE Fellow and Senior Farm Educator, excited to ferment into a more seasoned teacher of wonder and facilitator of earth based spiritual practice. She spends her spare time keeping bees, eating apple cores, dancing, and making herbal concoctions. She is excited to be joining the education team at UA and to be living for the first time west of the Mississippi.

As I review my goals it becomes clear they are life-time journeys
Goals to work on with Mentor Adam B As I review my goals it becomes clear they are life-time journeys 1.Gender has been a theme of the year for me. I have stood up for myself and women and tried to act in ways that defy gender roles (asking for raise, giving feedback clearly and strongly ) and that embrace the parts of being a female that I know serve my work (Compassion and sharing power, working collaboratively and acting first with concern for feelings of coworkers makes work enjoyable and a healthy place to show up as human) Also been a challenge.. Have been challenged in moments with males in the org and have not always voiced feedback 2.Teen Week… we shall see. In my personal life this has come to be true. If you have the power to manifest now begs the question well what do you want? 3.Personal life, been giving quick feedback constantly, to friends, family, loves. At work too, but also knowing when to give it and how. Sensitive when we work with those we love and they are going through hard times. 4.YES! Taught others about this too. Apply this everyday. Work on questions when I vision lessons. 5.YES! Feel like a master in some ways. I am almost board of the materials and yearning for more Jewish learning. Want to get into kabbalah, chasidut, stories, songs to inform what I teach now. 6. Thru WT have been thinking a lot about this. Still have work to do integrating into work but it’s def a lens I share when contextualizing Jewish Ag. The place from which I understand this work – us reclaiming our indigineity 7. YES! Teaching a lot with fellows, staff, teachers in the community. What I have realized is I am an expert and also, don’t need to be an expert because so much is recycled and reused. Folks want exposure with someone who is passionate.
