3.) numerical expression 4.) expression

2 1-1 VARIABLES AND EXPRESSIONS
Algebra 1

3 VARIABLES A variable is a symbol, usually a letter that represents the value of a variable. Variables are alphabetical letters such as; a, b, c, x, & t Variables and numbers are included in algebraic expression

4 Algebraic Exp. Vs. Numeric Exp.
Algebraic Exp. includes variables and numbers For example, a + 5 Numeric Exp. includes numbers only For example, 2 + 5

5 Expression vs. Equation
An expression includes only one side of an equation. For example, a + 5 An equation includes both sides of an equation. For example, a + 5 = 7

6 Ex 1)Write an algebraic expression for the word phrase.
a.) A number x more than 6 *b.) A number t less than 4

7 Ex. 2) Write an algebraic expression for the word phrase.
1.) 7 times the product of x and t 2.) The quotient of 29 and b

8 Ex. 3)What is an algebraic expression for the word phrase?
a.) The sum of 13 and twice a number h b.) 6.8 more than the product of 5 and n c.)7 minus the quotient of 3 and v 20.
