Context Information In early 1960s, the Sajha Yatayat established as a cooperative public transportation organization with the aim to provide more efficient and affordable public transportation to commuters in Kathmandu Valley However, after several years of its operation, the Sajha Yatayat suffered some institutional turbulence and during 1990s, it confronted with major operational problems and buses stopped running But, now, it has been revived as cooperative organization with the participation of the Government of Nepal and, most recently, with strong joint ownership with Kathmandu Municipality The new management assures to provide public transportation that is efficient, transparent and professional in terms of service delivery that is easily accessible to the handicapped, women, the elderly, and children.

To examine the reasons behind choosing the public transport services offered to commuters To identify the service preferences of people in Sajha Yatayat in terms of gender, age, and others

4 3. Significance of the Study
Relief the traffic congestion in Kathmandu Valley Services can be extended to other major cities of the country Helps to avoid forceful tax policy of government in vehicles and to manage public transportation system in country

Literature Survey Traffic congestion in Kathmandu Valley has become serious problems resulting the significant costs in terms of lost time, missing appointments, needless wastage of fuel, obstructed commerce, air pollution and no journeys to take place Huge pressure of public transportation due to growing population in the Kathmandu Valley (expecting to reach 4 million soon from current 3 million people) The motorcycle is the major choice (74 %) in overall vehicle composition in the Kathmandu valley (Official Site, Sajha Yatayat) There is the observed trend to switch many residents from motorcycles to cars It is believed, though there is other alternative public transportation services, the major reason to rely on self-driven vehicles is due to the lack of coordinated public transport and poor quality services in terms of proper schedule, punctuality, affordability, security, and comfort

Sampling Method Judgmental / purposive sample technique will be applied d. Sample Size As per suggested by Cochran (1997), sample size will be 384
