Global City Teams Challenge
September 29-30, 2014 Report Out: Remotely Caring for Our Most Vulnerable Citizens In-Place During A Pandemic Jason Scott, Brenda Bannan, Sam Abidi, Hung Trinh, Betty Levine Julian Goldman
3
Global Cities have vulnerable populations Travel is difficult
Susceptible to contagious disease Los Alamos National Infrastructure Simulation and Analysis Center

Or? Challenges & Opportunities:
Pandemic – “epidemic of infectious disease that has spread through human populations across a large region”. All resources are constrained during pandemic. Challenges & Opportunities: Diagnose and treat those who can’t travel Early dx; early tx through remote presence When go to ER? Reverse quarantine? Assess treatment Or? Los Alamos National Infrastructure Simulation and Analysis Center H1N1 2009
5
Proposed Project Scope
Description Automate aspects of detection, triage, and treatment in the face of pandemic of infectious disease Provide early detection of onset of disease; remote support of local treatment by non-skilled people; avoid unnecessary travel to ER and exposure of other people Activate the DrugDroneTM Home Delivery Corps – to support therapy Partnerships required Sensor networking Epidemiologists Healthcare professionals City Planner [Montgomery County] MGH OpenICE Platform
6
Impacts/Benefits Empower family/community to deliver care
Reduce ED/ER visits Reduce spread of contagious diseases Improve training effectiveness and efficiency Create a learning environment to improve quality More effective use of strategic national stockpiles of medications, medical devices, and supplies Not limited to home environments
7
Project Action Plan Major Tasks Milestones Identify required sensors
Develop means for sensor deployment by unskilled users. What data is required? Local and remote data acquisition, storage, playback, analysis from sensor networks Workflow modeling / business logic Close interoperability gaps Milestones Storyboard scenario Identify technology and capability gaps Contact domain experts for additional detail
8
Demonstration Demonstration scenario Storyboard of scenario
Demonstrate end-end use case and key supporting technology sensor suite; data flow; decision support drone Model current state and expected improvements, impact on disease spread, cost savings Consider pilot with Montgomery County
