As the war was coming to a close the leaders of the allied country met in Yalta, in the Soviet Union.
Several things were agreed upon at the Yalta Conference.
First, that Germany would be divided into four parts for each of the allied countries.

Stalin also agreed at the conference to join the allies in fighting Japan.
Thirdly, Stalin agreed to attend another conference in San Francisco to talk about a world governing body..
When the war ended in Japan, American forces stayed to help rebuild the country.
MacArthur spent several years introducing capitalism and democracy to the Japanese.

The Japanese emperor Hirohito was allowed to stay in power to help in the rebuilding process.
Not all escaped to see another day such as Tojo who was sentenced to death.
On the other continent the Nazi’s were having their own trial.

The Nuremberg Trials were court trials that saw many Nazi’s being accused of crimes against the peace, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Many high ranking Nazi’s were put on trail and convicted and sentenced to death.
This trial set an important precedent that actions during wartime could be found illegal.

9. The End of WW II Not only Europeans suffered from the war.
About 110,000 Japanese Americans were rounded up and sent to relocation centers during the war.
Many of them lost their jobs, businesses and homes in the process.
In 1990 each person that was held captive received $20,000.

By the wars end, WW II became the deadliest conflict ever known to man.
Estimates on total dead range up to 70 million people from war, disease and famine.
Of those 70 million about 47 million were civilians.
The Soviet Union had the highest number dead at 26.6 million.

Poland lost about 5.6 million people or 16% of their total population.
In the Holocaust alone 11 million people were killed and only about 6 million were Jews.
Also of those 11 million 1.5 million were children.
The U.S. lost about 415,000 soldiers.
