The harsh climate required the Inuit to move around in search of food. As a result, they needed a dwelling that was easy to set up and take down. The igloo fit this criteria. It was built of ice and snow, which was easily accessible in the Arctic environment It was very insulated, protecting the Inuit from the harsh climate of the Arctic
