Assyria and Persia By:Savannah Buhl Class of 2018

Social Persian men: Assyrians men: -almost all were warriors
-very cruel and ruthless -were always out in battles -in charge of hunting Assyrian women: -a lot were servants -played a lot of musical instruments -caretakers of all the children -cooked Persian men: --hunters -warriors -guards for the king Persian women: -servants -concubines -in charge of food

Political Assyria: -were ruled by kings and emperors -the empire was divided between two powers. -Used horses, mules, or donkeys to relay messages. -really good at conquering others Persia: -ruled by Cyrus “the great” who was the best ruler of their time -organized empire -had satrapies when empire was divided -monarchy

Interactions between humans and environment
Assyria: -hunted and fished off the land -picked fruit and grew vegetables - women would prepare meals -had stone homes and empires -used lion fur for warmth Persia: -hunted a lot -grew miles of crops -women prepared food for men - also had stone homes and empires -used all types of animal fur for clothing

Cultural Assyria: -Assure was the national God
-Akkadian was the language -gradually converted from the ancient Mesopotamian religion to East Syrian Rite Christianity Persia: -main language is Farsi -the most beautiful poetry ever written; filled with passion -main artwork was woven carpets -religion was Zoroastrianism

Economic -Assyrians ate a platter of ground lamb, wheat, pine nuts, and other middle eastern spices. --bread was called Lehmo or pita -taxed enemies as they conquered -bartered cloth and tin for gold silver and other metals. Persia: -dry farming -crops include wheat, barley, legumes, and a few cash crops such as tobacco, sugar beets, and sesame -traded a lot
