WHAT IS MULTIPLICATION?
Multiplication is a quick way to add together equal numbers. For example: is the same as X 4 However you work out the answer it will be 12

So John has 3 dogs, each dog has 4 legs. How many legs are there in total??

3 lots of 4 3 groups of 4 3 sets of 4
+ = 12 4 + We can say: 3 lots of 4 3 groups of sets of 4 3 times multiplied by 4 4

Try these problems.... If there are 3 teachers and each teacher has 5 books, how many books are there in total? How would you write this calculation?
