AUTOCRACY Single person hold unlimited political power OLIGARCHY Power is held by a small self appointed group of rulers PLUTOCRACY Power is held only by the rich and wealthy

TOTALITARIAN Total control of the individual - even thought control. Rule by a single political party. Gov takes power by force Examples of Modern Dictatorship are China, North Korea and Previously Iraq under Saddam Hussein.

A Monarchy has a king or queen, who sometimes has absolute power. Power is passed along through the family. The Monarch often rules at the pleasure of the deity(god) “Divine right”

6 Anarchy Anarchy is a situation where there is no government.
This can happen after a civil war in a country, when a government has been destroyed and rival groups are fighting to take its place. Anarchy is usually an evolutionary step in the changing of governemnts

In a democracy, the government is elected by the to have their say over who runs the country. There are two types of Democracy (Direct and Indirect) A direct democracy is when all the eligible voters are able to vote for and create laws (Ancient Athens)

8 An Indirect Democracy (AKA a Republic) is led by representatives who voters elect to create the laws. Each is individually chosen for a set period of time. (United States)

9 Hierarchical King/Queen/Emperor Clergy/ Religious Officers Knight / Samurai Peasants Lower classes owe taxes and allegiance to those above them.

10 Economic system in which private individuals own businesses and the means of production.
Businesses can make decisions that are mostly free from government intervention. Profits usually guide the decisions of companies Promotes wealth and prosperity of individuals. Creates a society with many different social classes.

Individuals cannot own land or businesses. All citizens work for the government All citizens are paid equally, no matter the job. Creates a classless society

12 Economic system in which the most of the means of production are owned and heavily regulated by the government. Government imposes a high tax rate and provides a great deal of services to its people. Government is more involved in the lives of the citizenry
