What is “Manifest Destiny”?
First coined by newspaper editor, John O’Sullivan in 1845. "(It is) ..our manifest destiny to over spread and to possess the whole of the continent which Providence has given us for the development of the great experiment of liberty" John L. O’Sullivan Democratic Review New York Morning News Discussed the on going boundary dispute between America and Great Britain. Because Great Britain would not use Oregon to spread the ideals of democracy their claims could be overruled
