Exodus 30: 10“Once a year Aaron is to perform the purification rite on the horns of the altar. Throughout your generations he is to perform the purification rite for it once a year, with the blood of the sin offering for atonement….”

Leviticus 1: 1Then the LORD summoned Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting: 2“Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When any of you brings an offering to the LORD from the livestock, you may bring your offering from the herd or the flock.

3“If his gift is a burnt offering from the herd, he is to bring an unblemished male. He must bring it to the entrance to the tent of meeting so that he may be accepted by the LORD. 4He is to lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering so it can be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him. 5He is to slaughter the bull before the LORD…

Leviticus 5: 5If someone incurs guilt in one of these cases, he is to confess he has committed that sin. 6He must bring his restitution for the sin he has committed to the LORD: a female lamb or goat from the flock as a sin offering. In this way the priest will make atonement on his behalf for his sin.

Leviticus 16: 30Atonement will be made for you on this day to cleanse you, and you will be clean from all your sins before the LORD...

To Atone = to make amends = to make reparations for something bad = to make compensation for a wrong committed

God has provided the atonement on our behalf! Every priest stands day after day ministering and offering the same sacrifices time after time, which can never take away sins. But this man, after offering one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God. (Hebrews 10:11-12)
