5 Dear Jesus, Most of the time we think we’re in control
Dear Jesus, Most of the time we think we’re in control. Then something happens, and we realise YOU are. Help us when we feel out of control. Help us to see that we need to change our thinking, let go and let you be in charge. Then, no matter what happens, you are with us. You light the way for us. We ask this through you, the light of the world. Amen. McEniff 2018

7 We listen: The Gospel of the Lord Praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ
Listen carefully to the Gospel of the Lord. 13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” 17 His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.” 18 The Jews then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?” 19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” 20 They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken. 23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name. 24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. 25 He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person. John 2: 13-25 The Gospel of the Lord Praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ McEniff 2018

8 We respond: Lent is a time to…

9 We respond: We are journeying together through Lent to prepare ourselves well to celebrate Easter. Jesus arrived in Jerusalem for a feast called Passover and went to the Temple. There he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, which the people used as offerings to God. There were also many money-changers, so that pilgrims from different lands could change their money and buy the offerings. This made Jesus angry because the Temple is a place of prayer and yet the money changers and stallholders made it into a place of business. They were charging a high price for their services, which was not fair on those people who did not have much money but still wished to worship God. Jesus made a whip and drove them all out of the Temple. How do you think all the people felt when they saw this? Jesus was standing up for what he believed in. He saw something that he did not think was fair or right and so he acted to change the situation. Can you think of some things that you have seen that are unfair or which are not right? McEniff 2018

10 We respond: We are journeying together through Lent to prepare ourselves well to celebrate Easter. In the Gospel we hear about how Jesus gets angry when he sees something that he does not think is right or fair. When we look at the world we can see lots of things that are not fair. Can you think of any examples? McEniff 2018

11 We respond: We are journeying together through Lent to prepare ourselves well to celebrate Easter. This week we heard about how Jesus got angry when he saw something that he did not think was right or fair. We thought about unfairness in our world. Let’s think a bit today about how we can change this. What do you know about……… McEniff 2018
