1
Cerebral palsy profile (cp-pro)
Jacob Kean, PhD
2
We need good measures Children with CP represent a very diverse population Measures must cover the full range of abilities and problems Assessment can be burdensome Brevity is important for children with CP Assessing children Physical and cognitive limitations Time constraints in busy practice environments
3
Cerebral palsy profile (CP-PRO)
Developed at Boston University and Shriners Hospital for Children Four item banks Activity Global Health Lower Extremity Function Upper Extremity Function Parent-reported outcome measures
4
T-score metric 0-100, M=50, SD=10
5
Key Considerations When Using CAT
Not all items answered by each person Person’s responses to previous items determines what item is presented next Scores across persons can be compared despite administration of different items Clients answer different items on repeated administration of the same CAT Filters Clients will never answer items that are not applicable Walking items for those who only use chairs Gender specific items
6
Short Forms (SF) Needed if CAT is not feasible or desired
Select 8-10 items from the calibrated item bank Cover appropriate range of function: enough items at upper, middle and lower parts of the scale Select items that can discriminate different abilities levels Ensure that items assess important abilities Can link scores from CAT-administered tests
7
Impact: cost, sample size, study duration
Comparing active treatment and placebo groups in a clinical trial Measure 1 (CTT; More Measurement Error) Measure 2 (IRT; Less Measurement Error) α=0.05, β=0.20, SD=17.2, Δ=5 α=0.05, β=0.20, SD=6.7, Δ=5 Sample Size = 189 Sample Size = 29 $1500/participant = $283,500 $1500/participant = $43,500 10 participants/month = 19 months 10 participants/month = 3 months
8
Integration with Mycp and ehr
Working to develop web-based administrations using the MyCP platform CAT or SF Web-based system could write t-scores to EHR SF could be licensed to CPRN sites or others
