Simple, Compound and Complex Sentences

2. Simple Sentence A simple sentence is 1
independent clause. Which means it can stand alone. It has a subject and a predicate.
In the show “Good Luck Charlie” , Mrs. Duncan can be independent. She doesn’t have to have someone help her. She is like a simple sentence.

3. Simple Sentences Charlie Duncan lives with her mom and dad.
PJ is the oldest child in the Duncan family.
Teddy Duncan video tapes all of the crazy stuff in the Duncan family.
The Duncan treehouse crashed to the ground.

4. Compound sentences
A compound sentence is when 2 independent sentences are combined with a comma and a FANBOY (conjunction). Both parts of the sentence can be a good sentence on their own, but make a great sentence together.
Mr. Duncan and Mrs. Duncan are adults and can be okay on their own, however, they are better together.

5. Compound Sentences Charlie plays with her toys, and she plays with PJ.
PJ climbs into the treehouse, for he wanted to hide from his mom.
Teddy picked Charlie up from daycare, and they went shopping.

6. Complex sentences
A complex sentence is 1 independent sentence and 1 dependent clause put together using a subordinating conjunction. One part of the sentence is a complete sentence and makes sense on its own. The other part of the sentence isn’t complete and needs the help of the other part.
Mrs. Duncan is an adult and can make it on her own, however, little Charlie is a child and needs the help of her mom. So, Mrs. Duncan is the independent person and Charlie is the dependent person..

7. Complex Sentence
Charlie wanted to play with Teddy until time to go to bed.
PJ couldn’t live in the treehouse because it fell down.
After Teddy graduates from high school, she will go to college.
