The USA is a country in the Northern Hemisphere, situated in North America is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean in the west and Atlantic Ocean in the east shares borders with Canada to the north and Mexico to the south and territorial water border with Russia by Alaska in the northwest

consists of fifty states – forty-eight continental states and peninsula Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean the capital city is Washington D.C. the population is about 317 million

Mountains there are mostly plain areas in the east of the USA – the exception are the Appalachian Mountains the western part of the USA is mountainous, there are Rocky Mountains, Sierra Nevada, Cascade Range and Coastal Mounains the highest peak of the USA can be found in Alaska Range and is called Mount McKinley

Rivers the longest river is the Mississippi River flowing into the Gulf of Mexico, its biggest tributary is the Missouri other big rivers are: the Colorado, the Rio Grande, the Snake, the Columbia, the Red River, the Ohio River

Lakes famous lakes in the USA are so called Great Lakes
Great Lakes Region consists of 5 lakes and 4 lakes make the border between Canada and the USA: Lake Superior, Huron, Erie and Ontario – Lake Superior is the largest one and Lake Michigan lies only in the US territory

Lakes II there are famous Niagara Falls between the lakes Erie and Ontario – they are connected by the river Niagara there are some other big lakes, e.g. Great Salt Lake or Lake of the Woods
