is a country in the Northern Hemisphere, situated in North America
is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean in the west and Atlantic Ocean in the east
shares borders with Canada to the north and Mexico to the south and territorial water border with Russia by Alaska in the northwest

consists of fifty states – forty-eight continental states and peninsula Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean
the capital city is Washington D.C.

Great Lakes Region consists of 5 lakes and 4 lakes make the border between Canada and the USA: Lake Superior, Huron, Erie and Ontario – Lake Superior is the largest one and Lake Michigan lies only in the US territory
