1 …the men of Issachar, who understood the times and knew what Israel should do.
1 Chronicles 12:32

2 “Civility in America” Survey Powell Tate and KRC Research, 2016
95% of Americans say civility is a problem 74% say civility has declined in the past few years 79% say incivility in government is preventing action on important issues 76% says incivility makes it difficult to discuss controversial subjects

3 Responding to a Culture of Incivility
Choose to let compassion “leap-frog” our biases, labels, etc., remembering that everyone matters. (Matthew 9:36) Walk (first?) with grace and then with truth (John 1:14). Let the “Fruit of the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22-23) elevate your emotional intelligence. Make sure your conversation is gracious and seasoned with salt (Colossians 4:6)

4 Respect / Honor Outdo one another in showing honor. Romans 12:10 Show proper respect for everyone. 1 Peter 2:17

5 Respect / Honor Outdo one another in showing honor. Romans 12:10 Show proper respect for everyone. 1 Peter 2:17 Greek word for “honor/respect” is time ́: “honor; set a value or price on. ́ ́

6 Respect / Honor Honor (time ́) your father and mother. Matthew 15:4 These people honor (time ́) Me with their lips but their hearts are far from Me. Matthew 15:8

7 Respect / Honor The chief priests took the silver (that Judas had thrown onto the Temple floor) and said, “It’s not lawful to put it into the temple treasury, since it is blood money (time ́).” Matthew 27:6 You were bought at a price (time ́). 1 Corinthians 6:20

8 Respect is earned.

9 The “amount” of our respect for others increases relative to the level of their qualities or accomplishments. But our high respect for all of humanity is not earned because all of humanity is worthy of our respect and admiration simply because they are made in the image of God and worthy of His Son’s blood.

10 The Lamb (Jesus) who was slaughtered is worthy to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor (time ́), and glory and blessing! Revelation 5:12
