Global Learning Distance and Continuing Education:
A call for Abstracts has been announced for the 14th ASCE International Conference on Engineering Science, Construction and Operations in Challenging Environments to be held October 2014 in St. Louis, MO. A call for Abstracts has been announced for the annual Complex Adaptive Systems Conference to be held November 2014 in Philadelphia, PA. Both conferences are coordinated by S&T’s Division of Global Learning Engineering Education Center: S&T’s Engineering Education Center in St. Louis celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The operation has changed from being home to eight full time residential faculty to one of being used primarily by adjunct faculty teaching courses sent back to the Rolla campus for both on-campus students and distance students throughout the world.

Global Learning Big Data Management and Analytics
Graduate Certificates continue to be popular options for both distance and on-campus students with 167 being awarded FS Recent additions awaiting final approval include certificates in: Big Data Management and Analytics Big Data Management and Security These were developed by Computer Science jointly with Electrical & Computer Engineering and Business & Information Technology.

Enrollment Management
PRO deposits for Fall 2014 freshmen up 4.5% with good numbers for female and underrepresented minority students. ACT average has increased from 27.9 to 28.2. Spring 2014 Commencement – May 16 & 17 ~1100 candidates, an increase of 4% over last year.

Applied Language Institute Intensive English Program 98 students are enrolled in the IEP for Spring Students are from Brazil, China, Colombia, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Turkey 11 new Brazilian students arrived for the March 2014 midterm; they are participants in the Brazilian Scientific Mobility Program

Insurance Services has a new staff member – Carla Clayton New agreements – 3 Memoranda of Academic Cooperation have been sent as a result of our recent trip to the Dominican Republic (Ministry of Higher Education, Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra, and Instituto Tecnologico De Santo Domingo)

Office of International Affairs
International Affairs has worked with the Office of Graduate Studies to build partnerships with top universities in India. Additional agreements with Indian Institute of Technology-Ropar and National Institute of Technology-Calicut have been approved by the Provost’s office. On February 18th, Dr. Venkat Allada, Vice Provost for Graduate Studies, and James Monahan, IA Project Director, participated in a signing ceremony for a new Memorandum of Academic Cooperation with VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Technical Editing submissions are up 22% for the Spring 2014 semester over the Spring 2013 semester. Course Renumbering efforts in coordination with the Graduate Faculty President, Registrar’s Office, and Curricula Committee Rep have been completed and the sections of the Graduate Catalog under the Office of Graduate Studies have been updated, pending a vote from the Graduate Faculty.

Sample furniture has come and gone. Student group studied use of samples, and report expected in May.

Poster shop. Cost, use, and aging equipment has been studied. The poster shop in the library will be consolidated with Printing Services in May, 2014.

Curtis Laws Wilson Library General Updates
iPads and new laptops are in place and are circulating briskly. Conference rooms 202, 203, and 204 are upgraded. Their use is encouraged. Mold was discovered in the basement. Investigation indicates that the outbreak is contained. Shifting and cleaning in the basement should be expected.
