Why is London so green? Central London Parks: Royal parks preserved but now open to all Local parks: run by the council since 1800s when there was a concern about public health and fresh air. Suburban growth built on farmland in 1900s leading to many houses having gardens.

Why is green space good? Oxygen – London has 8 million people and 8 million trees Reducing global warming – takes in CO2 and gives out O2 Reducing the danger of flooding; trees absorb rainwater Habitats for animals – London has 13,000 species of animals People enjoy parks and they keep people healthy People grow their own food – London has 30,000 allotments

How can we make London even greener?
Urban greening: Increase and protect green spaces in cities Individuals: feed birds in winter, don’t pave over gardens Large spaces: connect green spaces eg Curitiba. Encourages migration Garden Bridge in London across River Thames
