2 ABOUT Oral and Written Language Scales,2ndEdition ( OWLS-ll ) was published in The author is Elizabeth Carrow –Woodfolk ,Ph.D.; OWLS-II is an individually administered ,norm referenced assessment, which measures receptive and expressive language for children and adults. OWLS-II offers a broad, accurate and coherent approach to oral and written language skills across a wide age range. The scales can be administered and interpreted by trained professional ,which include: Reading Specialist, Educational Diagnosticians ,Psychologists. All scales provide age and grade based norms. It can be administered through ages 3 to 21 for Listening Comprehension and Oral Expression Scales; and ages 5 to 21 for Reading Comprehension and Written Expression Scales.

3 Components OWLS –II consist of four scales which include:
Listening Comprehension Oral Expression Reading Comprehension Written Expression Each of the four scales accesses linguistic structure in : (a) Semantics (b) Syntax (c) Pragmatics (d) Supralinguists

4 Administration Time for Each Scale :
10 to 20 minutes for Listening Comprehension Scale 10 to 30 minutes for Oral Expression Scale 10 to 30 minutes for Reading Comprehension Scale 15 to 30 minutes for Written Expression Scale OWLS-II is administered individually All four scales can be used separately, however using all scales together provides a comprehensive score summary that identifies language deficits. OWLS –II is administered in Paper and pencil format. .

5 PURPOSE OWLS –II is highly beneficial in clinical, schools, and research setting .It can be used to : Identify students with learning disabilities, language disorder and other related difficulties. Identify particular strength and weakness of an individual Help with developing intervention that address possible academic problems . Monitor and record progress. Gathers data for research purpose.
