2. What causes the seasons?
Remember our earth is tilted on it’s axis.
Remember our earth also orbits, or moves in a path, around the Sun.
Revolve is another word for moving around another object in a path.

3. What causes the seasons?
The Earth revolves around the sun in one year.
It revolves around the sun in a path shaped like a flat, stretched circle.
Since the earth is tilted while it revolves, the sun is striking the Earth in different ways throughout the year.

4. Seasons The tilt of the earth is what causes the seasons to change.
Remember, we have 4 seasons:
Spring
Winter
Summer
Fall

5. Hemispheres
The equator is an imaginary line that circles the Earth. It divides the Earth into two parts.
These halves are called hemispheres.
The Northern Hemisphere is top half of the Earth, closest to the North Pole. This is where we live!
The Southern Hemisphere is the bottom half, closer to the South Pole.

6. Hemispheres
In June (during the summer), the North Hemisphere is tilting towards the Sun. In turn, it gets lots of light and is warmer.

7. Hemispheres
In December (during the winter), the Northern Hemisphere is tilting away from the sun. In turn, it gets less light and is colder.

8. Hemispheres
When the Northern Hemisphere is tilting towards the sun, the Southern Hemisphere is tilting away from the sun. So, if it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, it is winter in the Southern Hemisphere.
